REVIEW: Raksha by Frankie Rose

Raksha by Frankie Rose

Title: Raksha
Author: Frankie Rose
Publication Date: March 1st 2013

   She has no name.
She has her knives; her training; her halo.
The first and second give her the tools and the skill to defeat the opponents she is pitched against each month. The third frees her from pain and fear. From any kind of emotion at all. Everything is as it should be. Everything is as it should be, until…

   Love.
When a newly-named Kit escapes the Sanctuary after killing her best friend, the last thing she needs is another knife in her hand. Or Ryka, the damaged, beautiful blonde boy, who she refuses to let save her. Still learning how to process the onslaught of her new feelings, the sights and sounds of Freetown are overwhelming and strange. There are a hundred differences between her old home and her new one, but one thing remains starkly similar: the matches. Yet where the blood in the Sanctuary landed only on the colosseum floor, Kit will quickly learn that a river of red runs through Freetown’s very streets.
Freed from the oppression of a society who stole her right to feel, the true horror of her old life leaves Kit wondering if she really has been freed at all. Would she be better off without the crippling horror of all the blood on her hands, or is the love of one boy worth living through all the pain?
Raksha is the call of the dead. The rumbling chant for fresh blood from the other side, the demand for sacrifice. The colosseum is behind Kit. The fighting pits await.
You have been called to the fights.

My Review:

(MAY CONTAIN SPOILERS)
4.5 Stars

I completely loved this book. It got me addicted from the first page and I was so mesmerised that I couldn't put my kindle down. First of all, I would like to thank Ren at A Little Bit Of R&R for gifting me this book in the first place, so thank you Ren.

The book took on a lot of action, very bloody and all the characters were so well described that I could picture them in my head all the time while I was reading. The main character is Kit, this is not her real name, people don't call her anything but when she is called to fight, they call her 'Falin Kitsh'.

Kit is strong, she is brave and she is the sort of person that I would fall in love with (as a friend) if I met her in real life. She is one of the strongest fighters in Lockdown (her home city). When her Halo is broken (you don't know what the Halo is? Start reading the book!) and she starts to feel again, she has to flee Lockdown before they put a new one on her.

Outside the gates of Lockdown, she meets Ryka, who belongs to a different town (aka the rebel town) called Freetown. Of course, Ryka is the boy that every falls in love with, even me.....lol.

For me, Freetown was more like Prisontown. I mean, girls are not allowed to fight? And if a girl cut a boy, the boy belongs to her? How is that 'Free'town?

Kit meets other people too, they are all very welcome (maybe not everyone). She meets Olivia, who is Ryka's little sister. To me, Olivia was a bit annoying, maybe it was because she was a bit girly (I'm more on the tomboy side) so maybe I was a bit uncomfortable with girly girls. But Olivia was kind and caring to Kit, she doesn't try to kill her, she just wants to become Kit's friend.

And (I'm so excited to talk about this) JAMES!!! And before you say anything, James is the bad character :( . I actually like James (the crush-like kind of like), no scratch that, I LOVE JAMES!! He was a bit of an asshole (excuse my language), but every knows I love assholes...hehe.

This book was so addicting, even with the annoying characters and annoying rules, I still completely love this book. I love all of the thriller and action mixed together in this book. All of the fight scenes were so well described and I could just see all of the moves in my head and I wanted to join the fight. Frankie did an amazing job creating up the world of fights and battles and I completely loved it.

About The Author

Frankie Rose was born in the United Kingdom, but now lives with her husband in sunny Australia.

She officially makes things up for a living, and when she's not doing that, she is generally making paper birds out of receipts and old lists or taking photographs that make her smile.
