Feature & Follow #2

Feature & Follow

The Feature & Follow is hosted by TWO hosts, Parajunkee of Parajunkee’s View and Alison of Alison Can Read. Each host will have their own Feature Blog and this way it’ll allow us to show off more new blogs!

How Does This Work?

The goal is to increase blog followers and make friends. First you leave your name here on this post, (using the linky tools — keep scrolling!) then you create a post on your own blog that links back to this post (easiest way is to just grab the code under the #FF picture and put it in your post) and then you visit as many blogs as you can and tell them “hi” in their comments (on the post that has the #FF image). You follow them, they follow you. Win. Win. Just make sure to follow back if someone follows you! What sets this Hop apart from others, is our Feature. Each week we will showcase a Featured Blogger, from all different genres and areas. Who is our Feature today? Find out below. Just remember it is required, if you participate, to follow our Features and you must follow the hosts (Parajunkee & Alison Can Read) as a courtesy. How do you follow someone? Well, if you have a preference, state it in your #FF post. A lot of blogs are transitioning to WordPress in which they do not have the luxury of GFC, so an RSS subscription is appreciated or if you choose an email subscription. If you don’t have GFC please state in your post how you would like to be followed. All features are chosen randomly to be the feature. They are not chosen by content or name.

This week's Activity:

Reading Nook Tour!
This week's activity is to show everybody a tour of your favourite reading spot.
Ummmm....
I have various places I would love to read at.
BUT...
I have to choose. Well, when it's hot and sunny, I like to be at the pool and reading just like I did in my holiday in Vietnam!!

Here ya go! Yes, that is actually the place where I went in Vietnam! I didn't want to swim so I just kicked back and relax with my kindle!! BE JEALOUS PEOPLE!! LOL!!

But if it's cold and freezing, I much prefer to read in my small but comfy bedroom!!
(Pst! I won't take a picture of my bedroom because it's wayyyy too messy so I'll just took some image of a bedroom instead. LOL)

LOL! I want a room like this! LOL!

What about you?

Next Week!

Next week's question will be a question!
What book (or TV show or movie) have you not read that seemingly everyone else has?

BLOG TOUR & GIVEAWAY: The Darkest Part by Trisha Wolfe

The Darkest Part by Trisha Wolfe

Title: The Darkest Part
Author: Trisha Wolfe
Publication Date: August 6th 2013
Publisher: Trisha Wolfe

Pressing the boundaries of both the psyche and the heart, Sam and Holden embark on a dangerous journey that will test the limits of love.

Sam Wintry’s life used to be almost perfect. She was engaged to her childhood best friend and high school sweetheart, Tyler Marks, planning an amazing cross-country honeymoon during her college break. But after a hit-and-run leaves her in ruin, she begins seeing Tyler’s fractured, ghostly presence, and her family believes she’s losing her mind. Not until she completes their journey, stopping along the way to scatter Tyler's remains, will Tyler be able cross over. Only...is Sam ready for him to leave her?

When the black sheep of the Marks' family, Holden Marks, returns to check on Tyler's case, Sam convinces him to give her his brother's ashes. Despite their shaky history, she needs him...plus, he owes it to Sam and his brother. What she doesn’t count on is Holden’s relentlessness to go on the trip.

On the road, Holden realizes just how unhinged Sam has become. Dealing with her psychosis forces him to confront his dark past, making it harder to keep secrets hidden that should remain buried. Especially from Sam, the only woman he’s ever loved. And as Sam starts to unravel the truth, she begins to question if the brother she's unwillingly falling for again is in an even darker place than her.

My Review

ARC received in exchange for a review for the blog tour.

THE DARKEST PART was a very emotional, heartbreaking, forgiving and a great story! This book tells the story of Sam, an easy-going girl that fell in love. Sam is hardcore, she's strong, and she would do anything for those she loves. I liked her straight away from the first moment. Her boyfriend, Tyler, died in a car crash, leaving her alone with all of the plans that they'd made together to travel across the world. Now all she has is herself.

Holden is Tyler's brother, the black sheep in the Mark's family. He's back in town, and now he wants to find out who crashed into Tyler the night he died. Holden is, what you would say, hot! Of course. He has always had feelings for Sam, but never admitted it because she was Tyler's. Holden isn't the type of person to take control of a person when they're in a weak moment. That is why I like him so much.

Personally, I love reading road-travel books. They just interest me and make me laugh at the same time! And this one really made me addicted. Throughout the trip, I could feel Sam and Holden's pain, they miss Tyler, but they are trying to live. They are trying to survive without him.

The whole book was a ride of roller coaster, I could feel everything that Sam and Holden felt, from pain, sadness to happy and enjoyment. And the addition of the bikers girls made it even more fun to read.

This book was an amazing read and I definitely would read Trisha's next book!! Can't wait for what she has in store next!!

BLOG TOUR & GIVEAWAY: The Right Kind Of Wrong by Jade Eby

The Right Kind Of Wrong by Jade Eby

Title: The Right Kind Of Wrong
Author: Jade Eby
Publication Date: August 2013

Nothing stays hidden forever.

Kara Pierce has held onto the same dream since she was a little girl: to be the next Katie Couric.

Vince Gage, a budding filmmaker whose I-don't-give-a-shit attitude cancels out his charm, almost ruined it for her once, and now he’s back, threatening to do it again.

When the two of them are paired together for a college competition with a $20,000 prize, the only thing they agree on is winning.

They return to Iowa where Kara grew up to research her grandfather's service in World War II, instead they find themselves in the middle of a family scandal kept quiet for far too long.

As Kara and Vince investigate the scandal deeper, they realize the price of uncovering the truth is so much more than they bargained for.

My Review

ARC received in exchange for a review for the tour.

THE RIGHT KIND OF WRONG is a sweet, romantic and has a little bit of mystery in it. It tells the story of Kara, who wants to be a journalist so bad that she would do anything to get it. But when she got paired with the least person she wants to be with, all of that goes downhill.

Vince Gage is not a playboy. Yes, yes I know. You all thought that he was some hot muscle-bulging playboy that skips down the line of girls (there is nothing wrong with those people!), but he isn't. Vince is more like a film geek. He enjoys making documentaries of people out there and people love watching them. Vince is a really nice guy, from what I read, Kara and Vince had a little bit of history when it comes to being partners for projects. The last project that they did together, he messed it all up for Kara and her big dream. But Vince is a really nice person, he's funny, witty, charming and quite cute (I do not want to use that word, but HE IS!!).

Anyway, when they got paired up for the project, Kara has no choice but to agree with Vince to do the project about her recently passed away grandfather who fought in WW2. What she doesn't know, is that she will find a lot more than just an old army uniforms and dust.

It was really great finding about Kara's family and past. In fact, it was a bit surprising really. At first, I though this was just some romantic book that I would enjoy. But the secrets and lies were a great mix to the story, leaving it interesting and I wanted to carry on reading.

Throughout the book, as the secrets come out, the relationship between Kara and Vince blossoms into something more. I would've given this five stars, but then three quarters through the story, I though it was kind of rushed a bit. Especially the romance. If the author would pull out the details and scene a bit more, then I would've totally given this a five.

A great read!

WAITING ON WEDNESDAY: Ask Me by Kimberly Pauley

Waiting On Wednesday is a weekly meme hosted by Breaking The Spine.
I haven't been doing this meme for a while, and now I'm trying to catch up.
Before, I was just so busy especially since I went on holiday and then came back to school. I didn't have any time AT ALL. I didn't even have time for homework! And now there's dance classes and swimming. GOSH!
Anyway, I don't want to bore you with my ramblings just yet, so here is my pick for this week's WOW:

Ask Me by Kimberly Pauley

Title: Ask Me
Author: Kimberly Pauley
Publication Date: April 8th 2014
Publisher: Soho Teen

Ask Aria Morse anything, and she must answer with the truth. Yet she rarely understands the cryptic words she‘s compelled to utter. Blessed—or cursed—with the power of an Oracle who cannot decipher her own predictions, she does her best to avoid anyone and everyone.

But Aria can no longer hide when Jade, one of the few girls at school who ever showed her any kindness, disappears. Any time Aria overhears a question about Jade, she inadvertently reveals something new, a clue or hint as to why Jade vanished. But like stray pieces from different puzzles, her words never present a clear picture.

Then there’s Alex, damaged and dangerous, but the first person other than Jade to stand up for her. And Will, who offers a bond that seems impossible for a girl who’s always been alone. Both were involved with Jade. Aria may be the only one who can find out what happened, but the closer she gets to solving the crime, the more she becomes a target. Not everyone wants the truth to come out.

My Review

I received this as an ARC in exchange for a review for the tour.

IN HARMONY was just...amazing. It practically blew me out of the room, I just couldn't put it down! This is the second book in the Fenbrook Academy series. And after enjoying the first book, I completely got addicted to this one.

Focusing on the story of Karen--a cellist who has been dominated by her father for 21 years--and Connor--a bad boy who plays electric guitar instead of those 'geek' instruments (as they say in the book).

Karen is a very serious person, always practicing her cello and always thinking about study, study, study. She wants to graduate, but she can't when her plans went downhill when her recital partner broke his arm in a robbing situation. Now all she has left is....Connor. Karen is a really likeable person, she's quiet most of the time, tucked away in her comfort zone, but once I got to know her, I couldn't help but find her likeable.

Connor is a bad boy, a player, whatever you want to call it. He plays electric guitar like it's part of him, and it is. He doesn't care about graduating, he barely shows up in class. But since he was Karen's last chance, she had to take it. Connor acts like he doesn't have a care in the world. But in reality, he's hiding a secret from everybody.

Karen's friends are all really friendly, in here we get to see characters from the first book in the series, DANCE FOR ME as well. They all help her with her music problems, and in turn she helps them with their own problems. It was nice to see that this book wasn't just about Karen and Connor, it was about Karen's friends as well.

This book was really enjoyable. The characters and the romance blossoms over time, and they don't just fall straight into bed. The characters learn to live with everything and move on with life, falling in love on the way.

You could read this as a standalone, but I recommend reading DANCE FOR ME first since the characters appears in this book. Really enjoyable, and I couldn't get y head out of it even in my sleep. Fans of romance, music and secrets would really enjoy this!

BLOG TOUR & GIVEAWAY: Left by T.R. Graves

Left by T.R. Graves

Title: Left
Author: T.R. Graves
Series: Still Standing #1
Publication Date: September 1st 2013
Publisher: Self-Published

Your own two feet are all you have when you've been left.
A naive Baylee loves Colt, her boyfriend of four years, more than she ever thought possible. After a little snooping, she's convinced she's well on her way toward hearing an once-in-a-lifetime proposal and starring in the wedding-of-the-year event. Instead, she's blindsided by a very public breakup and the crushing news that Colt is marrying someone else… someone more befitting him and the role his father expects him to take in his law firm.
Baylee may have spent years resenting Ariana, her mother, and her suicide, an intolerable show of weakness in Baylee's opinion, but after Colt leaves her just short of the altar, Baylee sees the world through her mother's eyes. She sympathizes with Ariana's actions and realizes that some things—soul-deep aches—can irreparably damage you and make moving on nearly impossible.
At least that's how she feels until she meets Ryker. With his help, Baylee discovers there is life after Colt, and she prepares to move on by pulling herself up by the bootstraps, holding her head high, and standing on her own two feet. Unfortunately, a new jealous and hateful Colt has his own plans for her, and they are plans no one—especially Baylee—ever saw coming.

My Review

I cannot say how much I enjoyed this book. I mean, everything was so hectic and I had to squeeze this book in to be able to do the tour. And after I started, I couldn't stop. Like, at all.

LEFT tells the story of Baylee. Baylee thought that she loved the right man, she thought that Colt was going to propose to her but instead, he dumped her. Baylee is weak or fragile like most with her past. Her mother committed suicide and everybody expects her to do that too. She has no one, her father is barely there, but Baylee is strong and puts up with everything. That's what I liked most about her.

And Ryker. I fell in love with him straight away when he got introduced. He's kind, such a gentleman and most of all? HOT! Haha! He cares for Baylee and he isn't the type of men who take advantage of women when they are in a weak moment. I love his mum too. She was such a great addition to the book.

The book made me feel happy to giddy, angry to absolute bat-arse mad. I just couldn't put this book down. And near the end, it had me in shock. I mean, HOW COULD HE DO THAT?? (Read it and you'll know what I'm talking about)

The ending wasn't exactly a cliffhanger, but Baylee and Ryker's story will continue onto the second book. I'm so excited!! I can't wait to see what's going to happen next in their relationship!!

My Playlist

I only have a few songs since I didn't listen to much music while I was reading this book (I was on borrowed time so...).
But here's the short list of songs that I listened to and thought that fitted the book:

There you go. That's my short playlist that I thought suited this song!

My Review

I received this as an ARC in exchange for a review for the tour.

GIVE ME STRENGTH is a hilarious, love and crime story. I loved every single second of it. When I read GIVE ME LOVE (book 1), I knew I was going to enjoy this series. But for those that haven't read GIVE ME LOVE yet, you need to before you read this one.

This books tells the story of Quinn and Travis. Quinn was raised in a dump, her mother didn't care about her and her step-dad wasn't much different. When she was 17, she moved out after her beloved boyfriend died., leaving her alone and scared. Now years later, Quinn ended up in a night club with her friend, Lucy. That was where she met Travis. Quinn is quite weak on the inside, but that's what made me delicate and really likeable. She might be weak, but she doesn't put her problems onto other people's shoulders. She kept her problems to herself and built a wall around her.

Travis is...what can I say, he's hot. Like TOTALLY HOT! In fact, all of the Valentine brothers are hot! Travis works for this agency that helps with children kidnaping and abductions. Other than the protective vibe he has for his family and Quinn, inside, Travis is a kind hearted man. He loves his family and cares for all of them, even though they annoys the heck out of him. LOL! Travis was easy to like, love even. And I seriously love everyone in this book. The Valentine brothers, the band, Mac and Evie!

Other than the amazing characters in this series, the book was HILARIOUS! Seriously, between Mac and Henry. Those two are like..the twosome gruesome. They annoy each other out every single day. And whenever they're together, I just burst out laughing so hard that I had to stop for a few minutes!

Kate McCarthy is an amazing writer, you NEED to read this series. You will LOVE IT!! I seriously can't wait for her next book!

ARC REVIEW: Boy Meets Boy by David Levithan

Boy Meets Boy by David Levithan

Title: Boy Meets Boy
Author: David Levithan
Publication Date: August 1st 2013
Publisher: Harper Collins, UK
Source: Netgalley

This is the story of Paul, a sophomore at a high school like no other: The cheerleaders ride Harleys, the homecoming queen used to be a guy named Daryl (she now prefers Infinite Darlene and is also the star quarterback), and the gay-straight alliance was formed to help the straight kids learn how to dance.
When Paul meets Noah, he thinks he’s found the one his heart is made for. Until he blows it. The school bookie says the odds are 12-to-1 against him getting Noah back, but Paul’s not giving up without playing his love really loud. His best friend Joni might be drifting away, his other best friend Tony might be dealing with ultra-religious parents, and his ex-boyfriend Kyle might not be going away anytime soon, but sometimes everything needs to fall apart before it can really fit together right.
This is a happy-meaningful romantic comedy about finding love, losing love, and doing what it takes to get love back in a crazy-wonderful world.

My Review

ARC received from the publisher and author in exchange for a review.

First, I just wanted to say that I have never ever read a book based around a gay person before. Yes, I have read books that has gay characters in them (and love them), but I have never read anything like this book.

At the beginning, in the acknowledgement, David wrote that this book was dedicated to one of his friends, and some of it was based in real life too, and from that moment, I knew straight away that I would love this book. I don't know why, it was just an instinct. And I was right, I did love it.

BOY MEETS BOY tells the story of Paul and his friends. Paul is gay, and he isn't ashamed of it. He was in a relationship with another boy when they broke up, leaving Paul hurt and confused. Paul is such a easy liking person, I can't think of any reason not to like him. He's kind, understanding, selfless and supportive. I would seriously love to have a friend like him.

Paul then meets Noah, the new boy in town. Noah, like Paul, is really likeable. He's funny and whenever he's near Paul, there's like, a sparkle going off. Noah is quiet most of the time, he's isn't carefree like Paul, but he enjoys life and has fun. I really love seeing them too together. They just make my stomach flutter.

And it's also heartbreaking when I read about Tony, Paul's friend (who is either gay or bi-sexual, I'm a little bit confused, but I'm going for the latter). His parents are strict, strict like religious strict. I'm not a religious person, but I still understand how Tony felt as his parents didn't approve of him being different. But me? I love him. Tony might be stuck in one place trying over and over again to make his parents approve of who he is, but he still supports his friends, especially Paul and Noah.

Overall, this book was just beautiful, hilarious, witty and just so enjoyable at the same time. I love every single second I spent reading this book. David Levithan's words just pulls at my heart and won't let go. This book was just utterly amazing.

~ June

BLOG TOUR & GIVEAWAY: Becoming Bryn by Angela Carling

Becoming Bryn by Angela Carling

Title: Becoming Bryn
Author: Angela Carling
Publication Date: June 15th 2013
Publisher: Acacia Publishing
Blog Tour Host: Irresistible Reada

For months, Jesse has been envious of her twin sister Bryn and even has a crush on Bryn’s gorgeous, popular boyfriend, Quinton. When Jesse awakens from a coma to learn that everyone thinks she IS Bryn, the option of actually taking over her sister’s life is beyond tempting, but there’s a downside. She’d have to give up Ethan, her best friend and the only person she trusts. Could she actually live as Bryn for the rest of her life? And if her family and friends found out, would they ever forgive her?

 | Goodreads |

My Review

ARC given in exchange for a review for the tour.

Have you ever wonered what it would be like having a twin? I have. I mean, I wished I had a twin so many times. I always thought it would be fun to share the same face and that kind of stuff. But I never thought twins would have these type of problems.

BECOMING BRYN tells the story of Jesse and Bryn, twin sisters that drew apart after one got pushed up the social ladder. Jesse wants to feel loved, she wants to be loved. People around her acted as if she was just a stranger while they give all their time and love to Bryn. All except Ethan. I kind of know how Jesse was feeling, in fact, everyone that has a sibling knows how Jesse feels. We all feel like that. Like your family loves your sister/brother more than you. I always feel that. So I know exactly how Jesse was feeling and I understood her view completely.

I felt the same for Bryn. She is just like her sister, she hates her life and wants to swap it with Jesse's. It was like as if both sisters were blind. They both wanted each other's life. So when they were in a car accident that killed Bryn, everyone thinks Jesse is Bryn.

Some people doesn't understand why Jesse didn't fight back and say that she's Jesse. But I understood. She didn't want Bryn's fame at the top of the social ladder, in fact, she just wanted to feel loved for once. So with her family thinking that she is Bryn, she's glad. It might've been wrong, but she just didn't know it yet.

And the addition of Quinton and Ethan was great! Quinton was a great guy, even though he'd made some mistakes. And Ethan was just...Ethan. He was really likeable, but most of the time, we didn't get to see him much.

This book was really enjoyable, I always had it in my hand and kept reading it and didn't stop until I got to the end. Fans of realistic and young adult fiction will really enjoy this!!

ARC REVIEW: A Perfect Mess by Zoe Dawson

A Perfect Mess by Zoe Dawson

Title: A Perfect Mess
Author: Zoe Dawson
Series: A Perfect Secret
Publication Date: August 5th 2013
Publisher: Blue Moon Creative
Source: E-ARC

I know what you did last summer.
Aubree Walker, the perfect girl most likely to succeed, is sure there’s only one person who knows what she did.
Booker Outlaw, one of the three Outlaw brothers—all identical, all gorgeous, all from the wrong side of the tracks, and all pure bad boys. He was always the unpredictable one, the one who would be brash enough to make it big self-publishing horror novels on the internet. He promised never to tell, but everyone knows you can never trust an Outlaw.
Then a year later, in the middle of the night, she receives a phone call at Tulane. Her aunt, who took her in after her mother’s death, is in a coma under suspicious circumstances. Now she has to face that one person who knows all about what she did that summer—sexy Booker.
Returning to Hope Parish to be with her aunt, stirs up all those ugly memories. When Aubree starts getting threats, she can’t help but wonder if what she did last summer was tied to her aunt’s “accident.” Afraid, she turns to the only person who knows the truth and Booker doesn’t hesitate to offer his broad shoulder for her to lean on. But Booker has a secret of his own that could crush their fledgling relationship.
As the hot, sultry summer days move on, she finds that even a perfectly smart girl can lose her heart to a perfectly bad boy. What is she going to do when someone starts asking questions Aubree doesn’t want to answer? She’s knee deep into a terribly dangerous, wholly life changing, who-can-she-really-depend-on perfect mess.

My Review

I received this as an ARC from the author in exchange for a review.

This book has completely reached my expectations. I mean, I love the cover from the first time I saw it, and then when I read the book, I couldn't stop. At all.

Aubree Walker went away from her home town, Hope Parish, when something happened a year ago. Now that she's back, secrets are starting to stir up. Aubree is the sort of characters that I like, she's brave and strong, she stands up for herself and sometimes, just sometimes, she walks away. I kind of am jealous of her. LOL! I mean, seriously, she gets to spend her time with THREE hot boys. Not one, but THREE. Haha! Aubree is really likeable as I get to know more about here. As I read on, I realised that she has a lot of problems lying on her shoulders and that she's just a girl who has to learn how to cope with these problems.

Sexy, sexy Booker Outlaw. Yes, he is sexy, I have to admit. But the best part wasn't that. It was that he was a triplet *swoon*. He's isn't one of those really bad boys that really does bad things like jump from one girl to another. That job has to handed to his twin brother, Braxton. Booker has secrets, and he believes that he might become like his father who left his family and never came back. But he really isn't like that. He fell hard for Aubree and would do anything for her. Booker had me swooning all the way through the book.

The Outlaw brothers was a great addition to the book. I mean, even hearing the name had me swooning over them. They are known as "The Unholy Trinity", since you know, they're bad boys. Booker, who's a caring and protective guy, he's quiet and unpredictable (an he's also an author!!); Boone, he's a landscape architect but he's still reckless and liked living on the fact lane. And Braxton, he was the playboy and the sweet-talker. And he also cooks!! I love a man that can cook! The three of them were the bad boys in town, but inside, they really weren't. They are all kind and caring. They love each other and they protect everyone that they care about.

I would've rated this book as five stars, but 3/4 through the book, it became a bit predictable. I mean, I love all of the characters and the secrets that was in the story. But then as it came near the end, I could just predict everything. I wanted a surprise but there was none so that was why I gave this a 4.5.

But overall, I love the book. The plot intrigued me, the characters were all likeable, and the secrets took me in completely. I can't wait for the next one!!
