YOU CAN BE A VII. IF YOU GIVE UP EVERYTHING.
For Kitty Doe, it seems like an easy choice. She can either spend her life as a III in misery, looked down upon by the higher ranks and forced to leave the people she loves, or she can become a VII and join the most powerful family in the country.
If she says yes, Kitty will be Masked—surgically transformed into Lila Hart, the Prime Minister's niece, who died under mysterious circumstances. As a member of the Hart family, she will be famous. She will be adored. And for the first time, she will matter.
There's only one catch. She must also stop the rebellion that Lila secretly fostered, the same one that got her killed …and one Kitty believes in. Faced with threats, conspiracies and a life that's not her own, she must decide which path to choose—and learn how to become more than a pawn in a twisted game she's only beginning to understand.

My Review

Review copy provided by Edelweiss.

First of all, I just want to say that I love reading dystopian books. And I also love books that immediately smacks me in the face with the first word/sentence. And PAWN did just that. Aimee Carter's words smacked me straight in the face. When I started the book, I literally couldn't put it down and sped straight to 40-something-percent before I told myself I had to stop or else I would finish the book way too soon.

Aimee created a dystopian world that had everything-a lot of lies, secrets and backstabbing. The country is ruled by one family and one family only. They control everything, and they can create things that we all think is impossible. And as the story progresses, we get to learn more about this family, about the political scene and the lies and secrets that threatens to destroy everything.

There are times that Aimee just surprised me and I just sit there with my mouth opened and just waiting for what's going to happen next. My legs shakes and a chill goes down my spine and I just can't stop turning the page.

The characters are really likeable. Kitty Doe is the main character in this book, and at first she's just a hopeless III, but when she got offered a deal that went a bit off, she got turned into a VII, she got turned into Lila Hart. The Hart family rules everything. They can do anything with just a snap of their fingers. And they kill for fun. They might seem to be the rich family who has everything. But secrets and lies runs through their bloodline.

Aimee knows how to keep us readers attached to the page. She made twists and turns and surprises that I can't get enough of. PAWN is like poison, it catches you and won't disappear until it swallows you up whole. It is that addictive.

And there's also a love story in this book. Luckily though, THERE'S NO LOVE-TRIANGLE! YAY! But I kind of like Knox better :( Oh well. Love takes up at least 40% of this book. Kitty has to fight for not only herself, but for Benjy as well. In fact, she would fight anything, or even, die, to keep Benjy safe. So if you are looking for an epic dystopian book to read, PAWN is a must-read!!

  1. Awesome that you loved it! I got a copy too, so that's cool. I didn't like it as much. For me, a lot of it was confusing. Like, who's evil, who isn't? By the end of the book, I pretty much got everything but for me, it's a 3 stars! :)

    Lovely review, my Eurasian BESTIE!
