He's addicted to booze. She's addicted to sex...staying sober is only half the battle.
No. More. Sex.
Those are the three words Lily Calloway fears the most. But Loren Hale is determined to be with Lily without enabling her dangerous compulsions. With their new living situation—sleeping in the same bed, for real, together—Lily has new battles. Like not jumping Lo’s bones every night. Not being consumed by sex and his body.
Loren plans to stay sober, to right all of his wrongs. So when someone threatens to expose Lily’s secret to her family and the public, he promises that he’ll do anything to protect her. But with old enemies surfacing, Lo has more at stake than his sobriety.
They will torment Lily until Lo breaks.
And his worst fear isn’t relapsing. He hears the end. He sees it. The one thing that could change everything. Just three words.
No. More. Us.
I am extremely happy to be able to interview both Krista and Becca Ritchie for the promo tour!
I absolutely LOVED their Addicted series so far and cannot wait to read Hothouse Flower and Kiss The Sky.
Below is the answers to all of the questions I asked them, and I have to say, the Addicted series is a MUST-READ!
Interview
Q1: Tell us a bit more about Becca and Krista! Who are the awesome sisters that created the world of the New Adult novel, Addicted To You?
Krista: We’re both identical twins! So we look the same (obviously) and we’re both 22 years old. Though, I am one minute older ;)
Becca: She will hold that minute above my head forever!
Krista: Lol, you know it! And we just graduated college, so it’s fairly easy to dive into the heads of our characters (who are in college) since we were just there. I’m actually a science nerd. I have biology degree, while Becca is more of the English/Mass Media Arts area. So we have vastly different knowledge.
Becca: But our differences come in handy. Krista is able to understand a whole part of college that I never experienced. I was stuck in English and Telecom classes. She was in bio labs and was involved in the Honor’s Program.
Q2: What gave you the idea to create a New Adult novel that is based around addictions and realistic problems that many people go through in real life? Any inspirations? Or did you just created it at the top of your awesome minds?
Krista: I’m always drawn to issues that no one talks about, and sex addiction (especially female sex addiction) is such a taboo subject that I really wanted to write about it. I pitched the concept to Becca and it progressed from there. Inspirations? Hmmm…maybe the movie Shame with Michael Fassbender. It focuses on male sex addiction, but it’s one of the most honest portrayals of sex addiction. What do you think, Becca?
Becca: I’d agree. I also think as teenagers, we gravitated towards psychological subjects, family issues and a character’s emotional journey—especially in movies. We’d watch Another Happy Day, Peaceful Warrior, Cemetery Junction, and Imaginary Heroes. There’s something internally painful about all of these movies. They make you want to scream and cry, and I think that sort of power is something we strive for when we write.
Q3: I know that working in a group is quite hard. I'm really bad with working with other people so writing as a partnership along with your sister, was it hard trying to put both ideas together? Or did you both have the same ideas and got into the writing straight away?
Krista: I’m actually terrible at working with other people as well, but Becca is definitely the exception. Mashing our ideas is pretty easy. We’re both open to what the other person has to offer – especially if it’s a good idea. And usually we both just become overly giddy when one of us comes up with something brilliant.
Becca: Krista is the best person to bounce ideas off of. And if something doesn’t work when we start writing, we’re quick to tell each other.
Q4: Many authors get a lot of inspiration from music. What were some of the music you both listened to while writing the Addicted series//Hothouse Flower//Kiss The Sky?
Krista: The Addicted series: “Two Fingers” by Jake Bugg, “Toxic” by Melanie Martinez, “Addicted to You” by Avicii, “Another Love” by Tom Odell
Becca: Hothouse Flower: “Hothouse” by Violet78, “You Make Me” by Avicii. And then Kiss the Sky: “The Wire” by Haim, “Loud Like Love” by Placebo. Kiss the Sky has a very upbeat, warm feeling for me.
Q5: After ending the Addicted series//Hothouse Flower//Kiss The Sky, what are you planning on writing next? Any other spin-offs or are you going to make a whole different series/novel?
Krista: No more spin-offs anytime soon. I think after seven books with these characters, we’re going to be ready for a long break and ready to meet new characters. We’re actually planning on writing a book with a pre-med college student. I was pre-med all four years of college, took the MCAT, went on a med school interview and then after all of it decided that I’d rather be a PA. While the plot won’t be anything near my life story, I do know a lot about what it takes to get into medical school – so I’m hoping I can bring a science braniac kind of character to life. I know Becca has something in the works too…
Becca: We’re writing a fun Spring Break book that’s like The Hangover for girls. Most likely titled “Spring Break.” And we’re shooting for the book to be released either March or April 2014. But if we hit roadblocks, we may have to push it back to next year. (I will be so sad if that happens though!)
Q6: So why should we all rush out and buy the Addicted series and the spin-offs novels?
Krista: Our characters are real. They have real problems and real hardships. We’re not ever going to romanticize an issue just because it’s a romance book. And I think at the heart of the Addicted series is this raw honesty.
Becca: And I think the Addicted series is something that will subvert your expectations. There’s a bad boy, a bad girl. Two wrongs don’t make a right. And so someone needs to change. It’s just a matter of whether they’ll change together or change separately.
Kiss the Sky (Connor and Rose spin-off) is like Friends meets The Real World. All six of our characters are being documented for a reality show, and not everyone should have their lives taped. The embarrassment levels in that book are crazy.
Hothouse Flower is a personal favorite. I can’t say too much about Ryke and Daisy’s journey yet. But all six characters are featured in every book. So if you like Lily and Lo, they’ll be as present in the spin-offs as much as Rose, Connor, Ryke and Daisy were in the Addicted series. So that’s my long-winded pitch *exhales*.
