I'm Payton Blake. Just another twenty-something girl, living the dream.
That’s what I tell myself every morning. That I’m successful, self-aware, and well-balanced.
It's just a tiny fib. I would be all of those things, if I had friends who didn’t work with me at the bank. And if I made it to pilates more than once a quarter. And if watermelon slushies weren't the main source of nutrients in my diet. It wouldn’t hurt if I’d had sex in the last year, either. (My best friend insists Jorge the Nightstand Boyfriend doesn’t count.)
But when you know where you're going, you don’t need to enjoy the ride. Right?
Even if some teeny part of me did want to fool around, Max Donovan would be the last guy I’d call. Sure, he made the indie video game that broke the internet. And yeah, his eyebrow piercing’s sexy, in a ‘what-are-you-in-a-band?’ kind of way. And fighting with him gets me going faster than Jorge on bezerker mode…He’s still colder than a cactus and twice as prickly. And I’m not talking about his face, because the guy’s barely old enough to shave.
It’d really be best if we just ignored each other. Which is a problem, because Max Donovan is my new biggest client.
So what happens when the girl who lives to work meets the guy who was born to play?
Game on.

Such an enjoyable, quirky, romantic and hilarious story! I loved it!
This is my first time reading one of Piper Lawson's books and I absolutely loved it! It made me smile almost all of the time, and the characters are so amazing to read about. I've never read a book about game developers before and it was just so interesting. As well as that, I really liked the writing and the tone. It was just so good!
Payton Blake was such a great character! She had just become an associate in the financial company she's been working in, and with the workforce being mainly male-dominated, the competition was crazy. But, Payton being Payton, she could handle them all. Especially, since she was known as the "Dick Whisperer" (LOL). I really enjoyed reading about Payton. She was funny, very witty, and when it's business related, she is a badass at negotiation. I loved her relationship with Max as well!
Speaking of Mr. Max Donovan, this guy is a dream come true because who wouldn't want a damn fine dude with the brains to match? *points* This girl here definitely wants one!
At the beginning, Max was cold, arrogant and just outright presumptuous. But...I liked him anyway :D. He was just so damn hot, and with his brains and the talent of creating bestselling games? He is a package everyone needs a piece of. When Max and Payton first meet, things didn't go so well. But the more I read, the more I just fell in love with both Max and Payton. Their relationship is so sweet, very sensual, and absolutely hilarious. Their banter always makes me laugh so hard! Not only that, but they have chemistry too, and it is freaking sizzling!
Play was such a great book to read, very funny and just so so good! The whole game developing side is just so interesting to read about, and especially since I play quite a lot myself, I can say, it was just so good!
Overall, I really liked this book, and Ms. Piper Lawson has just gained a fan! I loved the story, the writing and the characters, and I am keeping my eyes out for more books of Ms. Lawson!

I love reading and writing about sassy, sexy, smart women and the guys who fall hard for them. Schooled is the introduction to my Travesty series about ambitious girls who chase their dreams of a fashion label from California to New York and back again.
My main household expenditures include books, coffee and chocolate, not necessarily in that order. Coffee = life (and I’ll defend it accordingly). I have two business degrees, neither of which I’ve leveraged into a fashion label.
Home is Canada plus occasional sunny winter escapes. Come find me on the tennis court, at the beach, on the web at www.piperlawsonbooks.com or on twitter @piperjlawson.
