Dearest Clementine

Title: Dearest Clementine
Author: Lex Martin
Series: Dearest #1
Publication Date: May 25th 2015
Genre: New Adult, Romance, Contemporary, Suspense
Rating: 5 Stars
Twenty-year-old Clementine Avery doesn't mind being called bitchy and closed off. It's safe, and after being burned by her high school sweetheart and stalked by a professor her freshman year of college, safe sounds pretty damn good.
Her number one rule for survival? No dating. That is until she accidentally signs up for a romance writing class and needs material for her latest assignment. Sexy RA Gavin Murphy is more than happy to play the part of book boyfriend to help Clem find some inspiration, even if that means making out...in the name of research, of course.
As Gavin and Clem grow closer, they get entangled in the mystery surrounding a missing Boston University student, and Clem unwittingly becomes a possible target. Gavin tries to show Clem she can handle falling in love again, but she knows she has to be careful because her heart’s at stake…and maybe even her life.
DEAREST CLEMENTINE is a stand-alone novel with two companion novels. This New Adult romance is recommended for readers 18+ due to mature content.

My Review

I've been searching for some light-hearted new adult romance to read and enjoy for so long now and I've heard a lot of good things about this book, so I decided to try it. And oh my god, why haven't I read this book before? I feel so stupid leaving this book behind for so long because goddamn, I was missing out.

You know those books with slow-burn physical attraction but very fast emotional connection? Yeah, well this one definitely had that. The characters of this book was just absolutely perfect up to the point of their relationship with each other. The romance was just spot on, it wasn't fast and it wasn't slow. It was just perfect. It was so realistic that I wanted it to be my own, and I fell in love with all of the characters in the best way possible.

Okay, so first, we have Clementine. Oh, Clementine you wonderful human being who I just want to love forever and ever! At the beginning, she is described as almost being a "cold-hearted bitch", but her actions state otherwise. When we first met her, I was intrigued. I didn't fall in love with her character straight away like I might've, but I did learn to gradually as the story built on. With her not-so-great past experiences with boyfriends and an ex-stalker-slash-professor, I have to say, she is doing pretty good at dealing with all of the stress. But not good enough...because...you know...enters Gavin Murphy!

Gavin Murphy is the sole epitome of the word "boyfriend" and "friend" and "best friend" and "oh-my-gerd" and "lover" and "freaking-just-marry-me-please" and "hotness" and "do-I-really-have-to-continue-because-I'm-pretty-sure-you-get-the-point".

So yeah, Gavin. This guy needs to be my boyfriend pronto because goddamn Gavin Murphy, you made my heart melt. I love love love Gavin! The chemistry between Gavin and Clem is absolutely crazy. You can feel it all the way down into the bottom of your heart because their chemistry was so strong and bright that I'm pretty sure everyone saw it from space. I love how Clem never realised that their relationship started way before they made it official, that was just too sweet. What I also love about their relationship as well is the fact that it didn't start off physical. It wasn't exactly slow-building because you can see the attraction almost from the first time they met, but it wasn't too fast either. The emotional bond between them just made this book a lot more unique and exquisite, especially with Ms Martin's writing.

Beyond the romance, there was of course, the kidnapping mystery. I thought that bought a lot of suspense into the story, although there wasn't too much to twist the book into a mystery as a genre. I thought it also bought in a lot of answers to loose ends that I had questions about, and in the end, it just made the book itself a lot more entertaining.

Lex Martin is an author I will be looking out for because I absolutely adored Dearest Clementine. I cannot wait to jump straight into book 2, Finding Dandelion.
