TripFLIX DVD

I have long been a proponent of the notion that everywhere is interesting. I mean, I feel sorry for people who really limit their choices to the "usual" haunts. When I was gone last summer for an extended, I arranged a massive guest posting lineup from bloggers from all over the country offering up their highlights of the great things about their state. I must say, I think my readers learned a lot of new things about a lot of new places!

So, I wholeheartedly concur with the TripFLIX philosophy. Finding lesser known gems from across our great nation to get you excited about travel.

The kids, kind of shifts it turned out, watched the DVD with me. The thing with us, we're already smack dab "in the middle" in Iowa. The kids have traveled. In points east, we have traversed by car. Points west, we take a plane. So they've really seen a lot more of the country up close and personal between here and their grandpa's front door in New York.

The DVD is divided up by region so you can really focus your viewing to a specific area of travel that makes sense for your destination. We just watched the whole thing (which is an option) and I think the kids really liked the educational tidbits about items from each area. I mean, seriously, I didn't think the girls would care about watching the making of a canoe, but they did.

I already mentioned in a blog post that after our expense of house construction we've been doing and whatnot, the price of gas, and blah blah blah, we may just take this summer and chill closer to home. Be tourists in our own back yard. The TripFLIX DVD is a tool that will help families everywhere become local tourists.

It's easy to think home is "boring", but perhaps TripFLIX can jump start some ideas and help you think outside the DVD box.

From the official details, they say:
The DVD is designed to help families pick an unusual travel destination - wheter it's clear across the country or right in their own backyard - and also to keep kids entertained and excited while en route. TripFLIX is packed with trivia questions, funny banter from the teen hosts/travel guides, and little known facts about destinations as varied as "Carhenge" in Nebraska and Space Camp in Huntsville, AL.
The two teenage hosts are great in their roles, I think my kids would have been bored with adults in the same capacity. They'll probably have to do another DVD to include states left out of this DVD. I mean, come on, Iowa has the best State Fair in the universe...rides, shows and food on a stick?? Kid heaven! When Martha Stewart did her show from there for an entire week, you KNOW it's the best state fair. Just my suggestion for the next DVD.

If you're looking out for some new ideas for your family - it's worth the price.
