I don't know if I was supposed to, but I had never heard of Ladybug magazine before PBN let me know about it.And, I'm actually sitting here, valiantly trying to write this review of Ladybug magazine and Sammie is having me read her stories and sing her songs out of the issue she has in her hands. There's some sort of ironic or oxmoronic observation there, but I haven't had enough coffee.
My kids get a lot of reading material around here. I have been buying books since the first one was born. And over the years they've also gotten subscriptions to several magazines: Highlights, Boys Life, National Geographic Kids, Sports Illustrated Kids and Nick Jr. magazine.
Thus far, most of the magazines have been more geared for my boys, since they can sit down and read without help. The girls haven't been all that interested in much unless one of the Nick shows geared at small children is featured in the Nick Jr. issue.
The girls have really enjoyed looking thru the Ladybug issues. I don't really know how best to explain the set up except to say that it has everything my kids seek out normally.
It has the same level of short stories Sammie checks out at the library. And it has the same level of activities she might encounter with her schoolwork. And her favorite thing would probably be the music. As for Emersyn, anything in an issue of Ladybug that has to do with animals, that's what she wants me to read to her.
I can see why it is an award-winning publication. They have taken great care in packing into each issue many different components that will appeal to child with varying interests.
I have two nieces about the same ages as my daughters, they live in another state and are hard to buy gifts for especially since I don't know what toys they already have. I think getting them a subscription to Ladybug will be something they'll enjoy and their mom and dad will feel good about and enjoy reading with them.
